Vuyelwa's Story

Hi my name is Vuyelwa Gloria Kolisi.I grew up in townships in South Africa. I was not able to complete my high school education. I am a mother of 5, living in Masiphumelele.

As a girl, I dreamed of being a massage therapist. It gave me such joy to give my grandmother back rubs after she would come back from the garden. I did not know that God was building something in me.

When I grew up I had several other jobs but it never felt right. I always felt like something  was missing.During that time, when I sat next to people, I would reach out and rub their back and encourage them through stressful times. I thought I wanted to be a preschool teacher because it seemed like the right thing to do. But, after some time, I realized I really wanted to be a massage therapist, to comfort and help people heal.

I told Sue Cochran about my dream. We worked together to register in a massage therapy school. This was just before and during Covid. The school did not turn out very well, because of Covid. But I studied the books anyway and began to train with a local massage therapist who was a friend of Sue’s.

My son was so encouraging! He bragged about me to all his friends and is so proud of me! It makes me so happy to have my children be so proud of me. I know that it encourages them to be who God called them to be and to reach for their dreams.

Now, I am a massage therapist at Wisdom House South Africa. I’m not just a massage therapist, I’m a missionary too. I love praying for people and hearing their stories while I am massaging them. I thank God for where I am right now. I could never have chosen a better life for me and my kids!
